Revitalize Your Kitchen with These 10 Tips

Posted by Tori Radday on Feb 8th 2017

Hello! As life flies by, it's often easy to let your home decor remain unchanged. That's totally okay (and understandable- because trust me, I'm definitely guilty of it) but it can be fun to switch things up every once in a while; if left alone for too long, decor can start to feel stale and outdated. Now I'm not talking about buying all new everything because let's be real, that's not only expensive but also overwhelming to even think about. No, I'm talking about making small swaps and changes that will take minimal time as well as minimal funds but make a world of difference in your home.

One of the rooms that tends to be forgotten the most when it comes to decor is the kitchen. The kitchen may be a very practical, utilitarian space but that doesn't mean that you should skimp on the decor; the kitchen is also a place for gathering and socializing. And that's certainly cause enough to dress it up. Read on for 10 tips and tricks that will instantly breathe a breath of fresh air into your kitchen.

1. Update your dish towels. We use our dish towels everyday so they're practically guaranteed to gather dirt and grime as time goes on. Of course, they can (and should!) be washed regularly but is that ketchup stain ever fully coming out of your favorite white dish towel? It's not a bad idea to swap out your dish towels with the change of a new season. Swapping out dish towels can also make a big visual difference in your kitchen; especially if your kitchen isn't decorated with a definite theme.

As for those old dish towels, don't trash them. Save them to break out at a later time (when their styles will feel fresh again in your kitchen!) or use them as rags.

2. Swap out your kitchen linens such as your oven mitts, potholders, etc. for new ones. You'll be surprised how big of a difference such a small action can make! Try selecting kitchen linens in a completely different color scheme than your previous linens in order to get the most out of the swap.

4. Invest in a salt and pepper shaker set that you truly love.
If your salt and pepper shaker set looks like it came from a local fast food joint, it has to go. Forget the boring, basic black and white salt and pepper shakers and have some fun with shakers in your favorite color or style.

Our "Green and Blue Sea Turtles Salt and Pepper Shaker Set" is one of our faves.

5. Update your drying mat.

6. Ditch anything in your kitchen that looks run-down. Have you had the same magnets on your fridge for the past 10 years? Then maybe it's time for them to go. How long have you had your sponge? If it's any longer than a couple weeks, time to replace it. Is there mold/unknown stains on anything in your kitchen? Time to say goodbye! Going through your kitchen with a critical eye for grime will help improve the visual appeal of your kitchen immensely.

7. Add a lively wall sign or piece of art to any wall in your kitchen. Small touches like these are what can make your house feel like a home. Choose a piece that really speaks to you and it'll make you happy every time you're cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
